FLAME Festival is the largest annual gathering of fire performers in the Southeast United States.  Every year on the 2nd weekend of April, hundreds of performers gather for the sake of growth and innovation. During the day, we hold classes on a variety of props so everyone – whether you’re new or veteran – can learn and expand your skills alongside like-minded artists. At night, we all gather in the Fire Circle to show our new and old friends how we play.  Whether you’ve been spinning for decades or haven’t even started, we would love to see you at the next FLAME Festival.Stay up to date with all FLAME Festival activity at our Facebook Page . Another great way to stay up to date is to join the facebook event for 2016. If you have any questions about the 2016 event, please contact FLAME Festival Team

This year for our first annual Instructor of the Year contest, the Festival directors nominated several outstanding instructors who are pushing the boundaries of teaching and skill excellence.

Krisstina Hawks – Ninja Pyrate

Taught at: FLAME, Kinetic Fire, Fahrenheit

What’s your secret power?

I can teach people how to identify their own glitch points, breaking moves into sections for faster progress. No one is immune to my powers! Want to learn 15 minute fishtails? Come look at my diagram. Science for the win!

When you aren’t a flow super hero, what is your Clark Kent alias?

I am the Cofounder of Ninja Pyrate (fire and glow props) as well as The Floasis Brooklyn, and soon to be The Floasis Atlanta.

What are your main classes?

  • “Contact Staff FUNdamentals” – 4 half hour blocks that teach a horizontal steve (prepped for the prayer transfer), a halo (wrist-shoulder-shoulder-wrist), a reverse fishtail, and an angel roll.
  • “Getting Down, Footloose and Ground” – contact staff – class switches between standing work using foot locks, and ground work coming from a breakdancing background.
  • “Intro to Dragon Staff” – The first 20 minutes teaches you the chi roll, but the last 40 work on translating contact staff moves to dragon, focusing on the application of duck-outs.

Additional Teaching: Flow Camp, Flowida, FlowStorm, Texas Flow Fest, Eflowlution, Wildfire, Mountain Flow Fest, MoFlow, Flow Down, PlayThink and Earth Dance.

We believe in providing all sorts of educational content, and film tutorials of others as well as prop making DIY videos. It was an honor just to be nominated, and all that jazz.
